    Name

International Programme for Technology and Research in Irrigation and Drainage

Mission   The aim of the IPTRID Programme is to enhance the standard of irrigation and drainage research and development in, and by, developing countries, giving due regard to the needs of the environment.

Description   ITRID is an internationally funded programme aimed at promoting technology and research in irrigation and drainage in and by developing countries. The Programme is hosted and managed by the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations.
IPTRID Secretariat is located in Rome. The Secretariat is responsible for implementing the IPTRID Programme.
IPTRID Network aims to improve the exchange and flow of technical information in the irrigation and drainage sector. Networking constitutes one of IPTRID's main priority areas, and the IPTRID Network comprises a priority area of IPTRID's core programme.
In order to support developing countries in their search for more productive irrigation techniques, IPTRID is refocusing its efforts toward synthesis and dissemination of knowledge and capacity building to improve the application of research results "on the ground". In irrigation, as in many other fields, networking is increasingly being used to transcend geographical boundaries and make knowledge available to all who need it.
