Irrigation Division

Mission   Composed of 20 engineers and researchers, the Irrigation Division has the mandate to develop methods and operational tools for a better water management.

Description   Research works conducted by the Irrigation Division cover 4 areas:
  • Hydraulic management of conveyance and distribution infrastructures (canals and rivers),
  • Irrigation control and impacts, at farm and watershed level,
  • The economics of water management (water fees, quotas, water market),
  • Integrated management of irrigated systems.

Research outcomes are translated into:

  • "classical" scientific products (books, publications),
  • valorisation products (methodology, software),
  • consulting missions for government agencies,
  • strong participation in educational system (engineering schools, universities).

Objectives in the field of integrated management of irrigated systems are:

  • Integrated approach of irrigated systems

To develop decision making assistance tools for irrigated systems managers.
To build analytical methods on interactions between irrigated systems actors (from water users to managers).
To improve evaluation methods in existing systems.
To analyse farmers' response to technical innovations linked to irrigation development.

  • Management of irrigated systems

To develop methods and decision making assistance tools for managers of irrigated systems, focussing on water distribution systems and infrastructures maintenance.
