Summary/ Introduction |
Sri Lanka has
experimented with variations of the Asian model of
participatory irrigation management (PIM) since 1977.
This model is characterized by small landholdings,
socially cohesive (semi-formal), multi-purpose
organizations. The current program focussing on farmer companies is a shift in the direction of irrigation management turnover (IMT). The experience of Sri Lanka and lessons learned are relevant to similar programs in tropical Asia. This paper review the changes of management methods in the different types of irrigated systems. |
